What our Chickens Taught us About Fitness (and Life)

If you’ve never watched a flock of chickens turn into a mob of feathered
velociraptors, let me tell you—it’s something to behold.
The other day, while our girls were free-ranging, one of them snatched
a mouse out of the grass like she’d been training for it her whole life. In
an instant, the entire flock launched into a full-speed chase to steal her
prize. Wings flapping, feet sprinting, everybody trying to get a bite of
something they didn’t earn.
And as ridiculous as it was…
it was also a perfect metaphor for the gym.

Lesson 1: Do the Work, or You’ll Be Chasing Someone Who Did

The chicken who caught the mouse?
She worked for it. She hunted. She hustled. She put herself in the right
place at the right time.
Everyone else?
They just wanted the reward without the effort.
In fitness, life, and self-protection, there’s no shortcut to strength.
You can chase people who’ve put in the work…
or you can be the one doing the catching.
Every rep, every class, every bead of sweat is you earning your own
“mouse.”

Lesson 2: People Will Always Chase What You’ve Worked For

Whether it’s your health, your strength, your confidence, or your
peace—trust me, people notice.
Some will be inspired.
Some will try to copy you.
And some will try to take little nips at your hard-earned success.
But like that chicken, if you’ve trained, built resilience, and
strengthened your foundation, you can stay a step ahead.
You don’t have to look back. You don’t have to defend what you’ve
earned.
You just keep running your path.

Lesson 3: Community Matters—Even When It Gets Chaotic

Chickens are flock animals. They thrive together… even when they
briefly forget friendship and turn into Olympic sprinters with feathers.
Our gym is the same.
We grow stronger as a community.
We chase goals together.
We compete, we cheer, we push, we laugh—sometimes we sprint after
the same “mouse,” but at the end of the day, we’re all part of the same
flock moving toward better health, better skills, and better lives.

Lesson 4: Strength—and Survival—Belong to the Prepared

There was nothing accidental about that chicken catching a mouse.
She was fast because she’s active.
She had power because she’s fed well.
She succeeded because she practices the instincts that keep her alive.

That’s fitness.
That’s training.
That’s self-defense.
That’s exactly what we build at Twisted Fitness and Twisted Tactical.
When life throws something unexpected at you—a challenge, a threat,
an opportunity—you want to be the one who can move, react, and
seize it.

Lesson 5: Don’t Let Today’s Wins Make You Tomorrow’s Snack

The funniest part came after the catch:
as soon as the victorious chicken paused for even a second—probably
to consider posting her win on Instagram—the flock nearly overtook
her again.
The moment she relaxed, they closed in.
That’s how life works, too.
Today’s victory doesn’t protect you tomorrow.
Strength fades when you stop using it.
Skills dull when you stop practicing.
Confidence slips when you stop challenging yourself.
Celebrate the win…
but don’t get so comfortable you become someone else’s easy snack.
Training keeps you sharp.
Consistency keeps you capable.
And momentum keeps you out in front.

The Takeaway

Train so you can grab the mouse of opportunity.
Train so you can outrun the chaos.
Train so you can be the strongest, healthiest, most capable version of
yourself.
And if you ever need a reminder of why we practice hard, stay resilient,
and keep pushing…
just picture a chicken sprinting across the yard with a mouse in her
beak, absolutely refusing to give up what she worked for.
Let’s get after it.

See you in the gym.
